Community Land Trust
Community land trusts are nonprofit, community-based organizations designed to:
- provide low- and moderate-income people with the opportunity to build equity through homeownership
- protect residents from land speculation and gentrification
- protect owners from downturns because people are not overextended
- allow direct, grassroots participation in decision-making and community control of local assets through representation in the land trust’s board
- Include a range of community-focused initiatives, including homeownership education programs, commercial development projects, and community greening efforts
Universal Basic Income
Universal basic income (UBI) is a government program wherein every adult citizen is regularly provided with a set amount of money. This program aims to:
- alleviate poverty
- replace other need-based social programs that potentially require greater bureaucratic involvement
- allow people to meet their basic needs
- replace subsistence wage from jobs that are threatened by automation
Limited Equity Cooperative
Worker-owned cooperatives are businesses owned and controlled by the people who work for them. Proceeds are directed among the worker-owners, creating a higher level of economic equity within cooperative companies and creating higher-value jobs within a community.
